All medical appointments being made at the Floriana Health Centre are now being processed on a computerised database system. The installation of this IT based Patients Master Index System will help to streamline the appointments system at the Floriana Health Centre, which was previously scheduled manually. The computerisation of the appointments system and the extensive refurbishment and upgrading process which were recently completed at the Floriana Health Centre form part of a series of initiatives undertaken to achieve a Quality Service Charter mark.

The inauguration of this new computerised appointments system was held in conjunction with the launch of the Floriana Health Centre Quality Service Charter. Apart from outlining the extensive medical services provided by the Floriana Health Centre and their means of delivery, the Quality Service Charter gives an overview of the type and level of service which patients can expect from the Floriana Health Centre. On their part the employees of the Centre are committing themselves to making patients the focus of their attention by striving to continually assess, understand and cater for their needs.

The Floriana Health Centre has a catchment area of approximately 66,000 people which includes the Valletta area and stretches all the way up to Qrendi, Zurrieq and Safi. Last year the demand for general practitioner services at the Floriana Health Centre amounted to 72,313 patients, out of which 16,628 were home visits and 55,685 were G.P. services rendered at the clinic. The total number of patients that visited the clinic throughout 1998 amounted to 69,138. This means that the Floriana Health Centre has given treatment to an average of 189 patients a day. This underlies the high demand for the provision of medical services at the Floriana Health Centre.

The launch of the Floriana Health Centre Quality Service Charter was addressed by the Minister of Health, Dr Louis Deguara, the Minister for Justice and Local Government, Dr Austin Gatt, the Director General Health, Dr Ray Busuttil and the Head Nurse of the Floriana Health Centre, Ms Marcon Grima.
