August 2001: Department of Further Studies and Adult Education
launches 2 Quality Service Charters

Louis Galea,
Minister for Education, views the electronic application process for
enrolment in Adult and Evening Education
During the press conference held to mark the launch
of two new Quality Service Charters, Minister for Education Louis
Galea expressed his satisfaction that the number of Quality Service
Charters launched within his Department has now increased to 8. The 2
new Charters, which are one for Further Studies and the other for the
Enrolment in Adult and Evening Education, clearly show the commitment
that the Department has made to give a quality service to the large
number of clients that it caters for.
The Department of Further Studies and Adult
Education has worked hard to introduce the service of a one-stop shop
for Further Studies applications and an electronic application process
for the enrolment in Adult and Evening Education courses. Moreover,
considerable improvements have been made in the way in which
information is provided for prospective students.

Joseph R. Grima,
Permanent Secretary,OPM
and Head of the Public Service during the press conference for the
launch of both Quality Service Charters
The large amount of clients that the department has
means that a considerable investment had to be made in information
technology in order to give an efficient service. This shows that the
government has clear plans and targets for an e-government which, in
our digital age, goes beyond the "corridors of bureaucracy"
towards a quality service.
The Minister concluded by thanking Mr Charles Mizzi, Director
General, Education and Ms Joyce Pullicino, Director, Department of
Further Studies and Adult Education for their commitment in launching
these 2 Quality Service Charters.
