30th April 2001: Department of Industrial and Employment Relations launches Quality Service Charter
During the press conference held to mark the launch of the new Charter, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Social Policy, Lawrence Gonzi said that this charter was another link in the chain of initiatives that enables the ministry to get closer to the citizens.
Dr. Gonzi said that such initiatives were still being developed but it was expected that people would start experiencing an improvement in the quality of service provided by all departments or agencies falling under the Ministry for Social Policy by the end of this year. Dr. Gonzi further claimed that the ministry was following the vision and plan drawn up by the Ministry of Justice and Local Government in the field of e-government.
In his speech, Director, Industrial and Employment relations, Mr Frank Pullicino said that the charter is a document that proves the commitment that his department has undertaken to give a better service quality. This will be possible thanks to the various initiatives that are being undertaken by the department such as training and refurbishment. A new customer care area and facilities for people with a disability have been introduced. Besides the structural alterations, the service has also improved through information technology with the introduction of, amongst others, links with the ministry's website. Through this link, the public can get more information on the department and furthermore, download applications at http://www.magnet.mt/services/socialserv/departments/department/indust.htm
