This Charter

One of the roles of the Vocational Education and Programme Development Unit within the Department of Further Studies and Adult Education is to provide information for prospective post-secondary students as well as receive and process applications for post-secondary courses.

This Charter is a commitment to you. It contains information on all courses offered by State post-secondary institutions, and it also outlines the level of service you should expect from us when you submit your application for the following courses:

  • Sec and Matsec

  • Agricultural, Horticultural and Animal Husbandry

  • Electrical and Mechanical Engineering

  • Motor Vehicle Engineering

  • Hair Dressing and Beauty Therapy

  • Health Care

  • Pre-School Education

Please refer to your prospectus for Post-secondary courses for more information, copies of which can be obtained from the Vocational Education and Programmes Development Unit, room 325.

Our opening hours are:

  • in Winter (1st October to 15th June) from Monday to Friday from 7:45am to 12.30pm and 1.15pm to 5:15 pm

  • in Summer (16th June to 30th September) from Monday to Friday from 7:30 am to

1:30 pm

Our chartered services

Submitting applications

We will receive applications between Monday and Friday of the last week of August at the Primary School, Floriana between 8:30 am and noon. Please fill in your application form accurately before submitting it to our staff as this will reduce the time you and the other students will have to wait. Please make sure that you also specify your second and third choice, which should be relevant to the area of study you want to follow. You are also to bring with you:

  • all original certificates

  • photocopies of the original certificates

  • Secondary Education Certificates or / and General Certificate of Education

  • School leaving Certificate

  • I.D. Card

  • 2 passport size photos

You also have to fill in the envelope attached to the application with your address and hand it in with your application.

Please remember that application forms are not to be sent by post.

When the results of the re-sits are published, we will issue a second call for applications in order to fill any vacancies in those courses that are still not yet fully subscribed.

Submitting applications – our standards

When you submit your application at the Floriana Primary School, you can expect:

  • to be seen within 30 minutes. Please understand that some applications may take longer to be processed if the student has any difficulty.

  • that all our staff will courteous and helpful at all times.

If you need advice, a number of guidance teachers will be present. However, please remember that if you need to change any details or ask specific advice to the guidance teachers, you will have to rejoin the queue so that others will not be held up.

There will be clear signage directing you to the right queues

Your role

You can help us reduce queuing times and deliver a quality service by:

  • filling in all details in your application form before coming to submit it

  • choosing the subjects related to your course if you are choosing any of the

courses numbered 1, 2, 3, 4, 6, 30, 45, 46, 47, 48, 49, 51

  • making sure that you also specify your second and third choice on the application form

  • bringing all the documents necessary for submitting your application

  • following the signage directing you to the right queues.

Publishing the results – our standards

After you application has been processed, we will publish the results according to the following standards. We will:

  • guarantee transparency of the students’ selection process by publishing the entry criteria

  • publish the results within 11 working days of the end of the application period

  • explain in writing any query that you may have regarding results within 5 days of query.

You will receive an acknowledgement within two working days of receipt and a full answer within 10 working days of acknowledgement.
