Who we are

At the Public Registry within the Office of the Notary to Government we are responsible for the issuance of civil status certificates of births, marriages and deaths and for ordering searches regarding transfers and other information regarding property.

This charter

This charter outlines the services we provide and the standards of service we aim to achieve and which you can expect from us. It also tells you what to do if you would like our service to change or improve. We regularly monitor and seek to improve the quality of our customer service according to the standards in the Quality Service Charter. Through this charter we are committing ourselves to providing you with a quality service.

When you visit our office we will:

  • be quick, courteous and helpful at all times

  • welcome you in a clean and friendly environment.

When you phone us you can expect us to:

  • answer promptly

  • identify ourselves and our position.

When you write to us you can expect us to:

  • acknowledge your e-mail within 1 working day of receipt

  • acknowledge your other correspondence within 1 working day of receipt.

In providing information we will:

  • give you the most accurate, up-to-date information available to us

  • answer as fully and precisely as possible.

 

Opening hours

We are open from Monday to Friday during the following hours:

1st October – 15th June

8:00 a.m. – 12:00 a.m. and from 1:30 p.m. – 3:00 p.m.

16th June – 30th September

8:00 a.m. – 12:00 a.m.

 

Our services

Issuance of birth, marriage and death certificates

You request copies of birth, marriage or death certificates by:

  • coming to our office

  • phoning us on 21 556470 / 21 553732 / 21 553774

  • sending us a fax on 21 553716

  • sending us an e-mail on pubreg.gozo@gov.mt

When you come to our office to collect your certificates, you have to bring with you:

  • your identity card or identity card number

  • date of birth, marriage or death of the person concerned

  • parents’ name of the person concerned.

You can expect us to:

  • take not more than 5 minutes to serve you

  • issue your birth, marriage or death certificates within 24 hours of your request

  • maintain full confidentiality in all requests.

Searches

At the Public Registry we are also responsible for submitting orders regarding requests for:

  • official searches regarding registrations of property transfers,

  • hypothechs

  • other types of transactions on immovable property by particular persons.

You can expect us to:

  • submit an order within one working day from your request for an official search

  • deliver to you the official search.

 

How you can help us

You can help us deliver a better quality service by:

  • being courteous and co-operative with our staff

  • providing us with accurate and up-to-date information and specifically the name, surname and other personal details of the person on whom the official search will be conducted

  • providing us with all the relevant information or documents when these are needed.

We will send you an acknowledgement 1 working day of receipt and a full answer within ten working days of acknowledgement.
